Does anyone remember the 'voting' procedures in Lugandon that were held last year? Back then I didn't know where they they got the idea from to promote & get the desired outcome. This is what I read about Nez Percé people living near Salmon River (today's Idaho) in 1805:
'To get the power of the people behind the decision, Broken Arm held a sort of plebiscite. He made up a dish of pounded roots and soup, then gave a speech. He announced the decision to do as the Americans wished, then asked all those who were ready to abide by that decision to come forward and eat; those who opposed would show their sentiments by not eating. “There was not a dissenting voice on this great national question,” Lewis wrote, “but all swallowed their objections if any they had, very cheerfully with their mush.” '
