Every time I've tried to force myself to start my next project in RoR I always ended up with Sinatra + Sequel. Why? Because I understand how such combination works (internally) and it's small enough that I can easily dig into its source.
This is a key for me: understanding how something works by understanding how to use its parts independently and how that parts can operate with each other.
Is there RoR book or a long tutorial that provide that? I don't give a fuck about creating 1073741824 blog application in n minutes or k chapters (this is fucking boring); I don't need 1048576 explanation what MVC and ORM is.
Dudes & dudettes, we are not in 2005 anymore. Please stop creating RoR tutorials and useless screencasts for imbeciles or people who are completely new to programming. (N.B. I'm not saying programming newbies are imbeciles.)
What if there was a nice book that might start like this:
'Imagine Ruby on Rais framework exists only as a concept on the paper. Now we are going to write a nano version of Rails 3.1 as from the beginning.'
Book writers, anyone?
